When war erupted in Ukraine in 2022, J. Doursou found himself pulling at a thread that connected him and his family to other histories of violent conflict in Eastern Europe. In turning to face these histories, he was struck by the tendency of so many in the West to move through life untouched by the immense horror of war, wilfully ignorant of its looming presence. The Deafening Veil is the sound of these ideas wrought out through oppressive walls of electronic noise, punctured – as conflict is – by hopeful melody.

Shifting focus between his present self and his misled teenage years, ‘Dogtooth’ sees London born and raised sound art graduate Fred Lomas contemplate the vulnerability of youth, addiction and suicide as Kinn. Unabashed in their creative ambition, Kinn’s tongue-in-cheek ‘dread-voyeurism’ is underpinned by a palpably sincere vulnerability that seeps through their dynamic and rewardingly dense records. Dujat returns to First Light Records with his third solo project,Tertre, a carefully curated selection of tracks that chart the latest chapter in his ever-evolving creative practice. From the uninhibited cascade of noise that closes the opener 'Sans', to the graceful tonal subtly of 'Lucid Veneer' and the kinetic precision of '30BLU', Tertre fluently traverses a dynamic sound world that is as emotionally affecting as it is expertly crafted.

Barkum Deer is the eponymous debut album from Jenny Ames and Louis Giannamore, whose musical experiments began when they became housemates under stringent Covid-19 restrictions. The result of their collaboration is a dense half-hour trip into a sonic landscape of bass-rich drones punctuated by anxious strings and skittering electronic flourishes. The first iteration of our new Unbuilt Sound series sees Flora Yin-Wong retreat to an isolated cabin in the Dyfi Valley, Wales, to collect the field recordings that provide the basis for her folklore-inspired album, The Sacrifice. Built on a foundation of four-to-the-floor minimalism with dancefloor efficacy in mind, Sean Kinnear's characterful debut EP, Senses, is more than the sum of its parts. Packed with dusty, lo-fi grooves and swamped-out bass, Kinnear crafts electronic anthems as emotive as they are danceable. 

Yuting Wu's debut EP, Mindtrick, is dark, kinetic, and excitingly original. Audibly informed by her background in electroacoustic composition, Mindtrick sees Yuting step outside her formal training and into an exhilarating sonic landscape that is as intricately detailed as it is bold and expansive. And Then Everything Was Sung is Giacomo Fargion’s First Light Records debut; a concise, well-focused four-track collection of experiments which stem from processed samples of his sister’s singing. Often far removed from this homegrown source material, And Then Everything Was Sung treads the line between intimate and experimental, achieving a grounded balance often missed by Fargion’s computer music contemporaries. 

Kinn’s debut LP, Anamnesis Landscape, sees the London-based producer explore dense and challenging concepts with an equally rich and well-considered sonic palette. Hypnotic electronics are woven into brooding drones throughout the album, which finds itself between density and sparsity, inviting listeners to tread the line between comfort and discomfort. Anamnesis Landscape is available to stream, download, and purchase on limited edition 12" vinyl. 

New Dawn is the debut project under the Inertya alias from German-born, Manchester-based sound artist and producer Falk Morawitz. Anthemic techno and delicate experimentalism melt into each other in precisely constructed tracks, which efficiently and stylishly transcend electronic genre boundaries. Along with three original Inertya productions, the New Dawn EP features remixes from First Light Records resident Dujat and fast-rising Parisian producer, Aho Ssan. 

Following the release of his 2019 EP, Gongan, Dujat's masterful sound design and forward-thinking production drew recognition from some of the most exciting voices in electronic music, some of whom have lent re-imaginings and re-formulations for this volume. Featuring: Loraine James, Adriaan de Roover, Piksel, Dan Valentine, and leo. 

Gongan is rooted in both technical innovation and emotional introspection. Rapid-fire percussion and glitching synths are pulled together in endlessly varied compositions that refuse to sit still as they lurch into new movements, all of which are underpinned by Dujat’s painstaking attention to detail with his production.
